USAA DriveSafe

Drive tracking for USAA members

USAA DriveSafe is a driving-monitoring app for USAA members who use the SafePilot or SafePilot Miles programs. It records trips through the phone’s location and motion sensors, then turns that information into feedback about driving habits. The app is best suited to policyholders who want to review how they drive and take part in a usage-based insurance program.

What it looks at

DriveSafe can track details such as trip duration, phone handling, and harsh braking. After a journey, users can check recorded driving information and see patterns that may affect their safety assessment or program results. Because trip collection is designed to happen in the background, there is less need to start and stop each drive manually.

• Automatic trip recording using phone sensors and location data
• Feedback on selected driving behaviors, including braking and phone use
• Support for SafePilot and SafePilot Miles participation
• Collision detection with access to assistance when a crash is detected

Useful context before using it

This is not a general navigation or vehicle-maintenance app. Its purpose is tied closely to USAA insurance and eligible programs, so it will have limited value outside that setting. Continuous location and sensor access may also use more battery, especially on older phones. Users should review the app’s permissions and understand how driving data is collected for their policy program.

At a glance

Developed by USAA for the Auto & Vehicles category, the app has a rating of about 3.99 out of 5 from 54,488 reviews and has recorded 1,000,000+ installs. Those figures point to a well-established tool for USAA customers who want driving feedback and insurance-program support in one place.
